Did you intend to speak against or for EG Wang in this post?

In any case, you did touch one unique aspect of EG Wang as an administrator (his hard indices already speak adequately on his being a respected physicist): During his tenure as the IOP Director, he (and his leadership team) not only managed to attract many established oversea physicists of Chinese or western origin to make frequent visits or extended stays at IOP during the summers or sabbatical leaves, they also managed to attract quite an influx of quality physicists to return to IOP permanently. A majority of these returnees are young and sharing stars in various areas; some more senior returnees left behind their tenured professorships in prestigious institutions in the west. This is certainly a tremendous blessing to the IOP graduate students eager to be exposed to leading-edge science; this, by any standard of judgment, should be a huge plus rather than a minus. Persistent efforts of this kind have collectively made IOP to be arguably the most attractive and competitive place for carrying out research in condensed matter physics inside China. Her flagship position for China's condensed matter physics is probably widely acknowledged by most people in the fields. It is also gratifying to note that many other places inside China are catching up with fast pace, by establishing their own signature programs in frontier areas of CMP, effectively placing pressure on and offering motivation for the IOP leadership to work harder...
