Reading comprehension is totally different thing to the words counting. Let me give you the definition from IEA(the International Association of the Evaluation of Educational Achievement)

Literacy is “the ability to understand and use those written language forms required by society and/or valued by the individual. Young readers can construct meaning from a variety of texts. They read to learn, to participate in communities of readers, and for enjoyment.”

Not to mention the most of these poor Chinese in China, I think quite few of guys here are having difficulties to construct meaning from posts in this forum. I am not kidding!
