职场成语新招 - “Over my dead body!”

下面介绍八句有关身体部位的英语成语。 这些职场很常听到的成语,简单实用,能给英语对话增加很大的风趣,提高听者对说着的评价。

1. “All thumbs” 笨手笨脚
It means you have five thumbs instead of four fingers and one thumb, in other words, you’re “clumsy” or “awkward”.

Examples:
When it comes to piano playing, I am all thumbs.
I’m no good at plumbing repairs, I’m all thumbs.

2. “Green thumb” and “Brown thumb
“Green thumb” = 有特殊园艺才能
“Brown thumb” = 毫无园艺才能

Examples:
All the trees I planted have died. I have a brown thumb.
John has a lovely flower garden. He has a green thumb.

3. “Break a leg!” 祝你好运!
这句话是常对演员们戏剧开场时上台前说的,有“祝好运”的意思。请别误会,这不是贬词,人们对你这么说,不是怀有恶意,而是祝你好运。

Example:
I hear you’ll be defending your doctoral dissertation tomorrow. Go break a leg!

4. “A bone to pick” 有事商榷,指对事件持有异议

Example:
I have a bone to pick with the conclusion of your article. It was based on invalid assumptions.

5. “Over my dead body!” 死也不(做,招,等等)

Example:
Michael: “We’re going to sell the house and move to Iceland.”
Michael’s wife:” Over my dead body!”

6. “Head over heels” 堕入爱河,不能自拔

Example:
John has fallen head over heels for Mary. He has lost interest in his work.

7. “Pulling my leg” 开个玩笑
Example:
My boss suggested that my English was good enough for public speaking, but I think he was just pulling my leg.

8. “Nose is out of joint” 直译:“鼻子脱臼” 有不快之意

Example:
Michelle’s nose is out of joint. She feels slighted because we did not consult her on the project.
