昨天，HHMI公布了今年新支持的PI，总计56人上榜，第一期给予他们总计超过6亿美金的支持，平均每人过千万美金。在此前的各期HHMI中，大陆背景的华人总计才有10人，而今年一次就爆发式的占据了10个名额，这10人中有一个是在大学转学到美国拿的学位，其他的本科都是在中国读，其中北大有4人。值得庆贺的是，同济不仅实现了0的突破，而且有2人上榜，其中Kang Shen是地地道道的同济医大校友，很高兴。另外4个分别是南大，清华，北医和复旦的。具体情况参见后面的附表。
这56个PI中，男性42人，占了75%。总共来自31个研究院校。其中the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, Boston University, Cornell University-Ithaca, Purdue University, Texas A&M University, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, and the University of Texas at Austin 这7所学校第一次上榜。不过有一点值得注意的是，名校还是占了半壁江山，其中 UCB 5，MIT 5，Princeton 4， Stanford 4，CalTech 3，Harvard 3，UTSouthWestern 3, 7所学校总计27人，已经近半。
